When The Writing Is Hard

When the writing is hard, everything feels hard.

The words build up, see — pressure in a pipe, and when we can’t get the valve to turn, when everything gets backed up, we fear there will be an explosion. Or worse, a leak: stories slipping away, drip by drip. Escaping. Evaporating.

Somehow it becomes about more than writing. If we can’t be successful at writing, maybe we’re not successful at…
